Spiritual Direction

As in previous years, spiritual direction sessions will be available SI 2023. Below are some of our previous spiritual directors.

Rev. Dr. Kelly Jackson Brooks

Rev. Dr. Kelly Jackson Brooks, LPCC, Director of Operations, holds a Doctorate of Ministry, a Master’s degree in Counseling, and a Master’s degree in Divinity. She is the Co-Founder of Chrysalis Consulting Center for Clergy, is an ordained Deacon in the United Methodist Church, and currently serves as the Executive Pastor with Central United Methodist Church in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Rev. Heather Harriss

My name is Heather Harriss, and I'm the minister of Congregational Care at Belmont United Methodist Church in Nashville, TN. I have found spiritual companionship to be an important part of my ministry as I journey with people through many life transitions. As a spiritual director, I am able to be present with people as they wonder about how God is at work in their life right now. For myself and with others, I have found contemplative practices like prayer, journaling, walking the labyrinth, paying attention to dreams, and creating time for silence to be means that open my eyes, ears, and heart more fully to experience the divine.

Rev. Dr. David MacDonald

Hello! I am the university chaplain at Ohio Northern University, located in Ada, Ohio. My approach to spiritual direction is informed by the Wesleyan question of “How is it with your soul?” as well as the spiritual practices of the Benedictine tradition. I utilize silence, listening, and asking open and honest questions in my practice of direction, and I sometimes incorporate artistic expression and creativity exercises into sessions. I also occasionally blog at a page called The Grumpy Contemplative .

Rev. Dr. Todd Spencer

Hello! My name is Todd Spencer. I completed my spiritual direction training with the Shalem Institute. I agree with Father Richard Rohr - we don't have to become other-worldly, pure, perfect, or highly religious to participate with God in God’s work. And I assume that God is already working in and around each and every one of us. The question is, are we awake, partaking and participating with that Presence?  I have loved providing spiritual direction for the past 15 years. If you would like to learn more about me, check out my weekly Lectio Divina (when in doubt) Podcast at  www.lectiodivinatodd.com
