Director - Wesley of Macon

Wesley of Macon seeks a new Director to begin summer of 2025.

The best candidate will possess the following qualities:

  • a strong commitment to the Christian faith, possessing qualities that exemplify Christian character so that he or she serves as a positive role model to persons on campus;

  • substantial experience in executive leadership, pastoral care, counseling, program development, teaching, worship leadership, and development/outreach skills;

  • the desire and ability to relate to the average college-age student population;

  • membership in an Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church; and

  • awareness of and commitment to following both the Wesleyan tradition and the qualifications required of those serving in ministry in the United Methodist Church set forth in our Book of Discipline.

Responsibilities

ยท      Recruit students, faculty, and other college personnel to participate in campus ministry, not only from Mercer University (MU), but also Wesleyan College (WC) and Middle Georgia State University (MGSU)

  • Contact students on campuses who list a United Methodist Church affiliation

  • Develop programs of worship and study involving students 

  • Provide leadership and coordination for small group discipleship, outreach, and service projects

  • Assess needs of the campus communities with special sensitivity to ethnic minority students

  • Cooperate with ecumenical projects on campuses

  • Create community awareness of the Wesley Foundation ministry on campuses

  • Publicize the ministry through a variety of media in community: i.e., campus newsletters, social media, newspapers, e-mail, service clubs, fraternities/sororities, etc.

  • Challenge/lead students to develop and provide leadership for the ministries of the Wesley Foundation

  • With support of the Board, maintain the Wesley of Macon property. This includes vetting and managing tenants of the apartments

  • Provide spiritual nurture and support for the campus communities

  • Maintain a positive and cooperative relationship with local churches and cultivate and nurture the strong ties that exist and have existed there; The Wesley Director is encouraged to accept speaking engagements in conferences and local churches.

  • Maintain a cooperative relationship with the United Methodist connections, District, Conference, and the Georgia United Methodist Commission on Higher Education and Campus Ministry.  The Wesley Director is expected to fill out and return all forms and reports requested by the Commission, also forms from the District Superintendent and Conference Committees.

  • Over the summer, plan and submit outlines and calendars of major upcoming events such as orientation outreach plans, weekly and monthly small group and worship times, leadership retreats, mission projects, fundraisers, grant application plans, and more.

 

Salary and benefits, to possibly include housing allowance or parsonage, will be commensurate with experience.
